Cloudy Sunday keeps temperatures in the 40s after morning snowflakes

Posted on 30 November 2025 By jobuzo

November closes out with somewhat of a wintry mix Sunday after cloudy conditions offered a brief dose of morning snowflakes and the potential for rain.

7News First Alert Meteorologist Jordan Evans said the D.C. region will see clouds and stray showers throughout the day as the temperatures peak in the high 40s.

Beware, though, winds between 10 and 15 mph are here to stay for the day.

Evans said a chance for snowflakes was a possibility, “especially west of highway 15.” And, it proved true as some residents in Montgomery County woke up to a light dusting early Sunday.

By Sunday night, expect temperatures to plummet to the 20s. A cold weather alert for D.C. is running through 9 a.m. Monday.

Mostly sunny conditions by Monday morning will pave the way for temperatures to climb back into the mid 40s before another chance for a wintry mix presents itself.

“A lot of us will wait for that rain-snow mixture opportunity on Tuesday, because it is a higher chance with more moisture available,” Evans said. “But still not enough cold air for widespread winter weather impacts.”

Evans said snowflakes could be “flying early” Tuesday morning, but that the wintry mix would revert to cold rain by the afternoon, when temperatures “climb back up to 41 degrees.”

While Wednesday and Thursday will offer up 40-degree conditions, the bone-chilling temperatures will make their grand return by Friday, when highs are expected to stay in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Those Friday conditions could set the stage for another wintry mix, Evans said.

Clouds will win the day, and a stray shower is possible. Temperatures stay chilly in the 40s once again.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly Cloudy
Lows: 29-34
Winds: Northwest 5-10 mph
Clouds will increase overnight ahead of the next weather-maker that brings showers Sunday.

MONDAY: Mostly Sunny

TUESDAY: AM Mix, PM Showers
Highs: 36-40
Winds: North 5-10 mph
Right now it appears temperatures will be too warm for wintry weather in D.C. with the exception for the suburbs north and west. Rain and snow may mix in the morning before turning into a cold rain during the afternoon. This may lead to small, slushy snow accumulations on elevated and grass surfaces. Temperatures likely stay above freezing during the morning hours.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly Sunny
Highs: 40-44
Winds: Northwest 5-10 mph
Sunshine returns but chilly air sticks around with below-average highs in the low to middle 40s.
