Chinese composer Xian Xinghai was stranded during World War II in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where a street now bears his name. A filmmaker from Urumqi brings this lesser-known chapter to light. Urumqi and Almaty forged sister-city ties in 1993, yielding fruitful results.
