Truce at last? Putin invites Zelenskky to Moscow for peace talks as Trump confirms week-long ceasefire

Russia has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Moscow for peace talk as US President Donald Trump revealed that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has agreed to a week-long ceasefire.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed that Zelenskyy is yet to respond to Moscow’s invitation, reports Interfax.

It should be noted that Zelenskyy has declined a similar invitation last year, saying he could not go to a nation which was firing missiles at his home country.

However, this time, Moscow has reportedly promised Trump that it will stop firing missiles for a week.

“Because of the cold, extreme cold… I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kyiv and the cities and towns,” said Trump.

Pointing out that Putin has agreed to the ceasefire, the US President said, “I thought It was a very good thing. Ukraine almost did not believe it and they were very happy to hear it as they are struggling very badly”.

On Thursday, Kyiv authorities confirmed that a Russian drone attack killed three people in Zaporizhzhia overnight. Zelenskyy had cited Ukrainian intelligence reports, which revealed that Russia is assembling forces for a major aerial attack.

The two sides are set to resume negotiations on Sunday.
