Trump says US strikes ‘obliterated’ Iran’s nuclear programme ‘like nobody’s ever seen’

Over in the US, Donald Trump has sat down for an interview with Fox News this afternoon.

In a typically wide-ranging discussion, the US president touched on the situation in the Middle East.

Speaking to Maria Bartiromo, he said Iran’s nuclear programme had been “obliterated like nobody’s ever seen before” after US planes bombed three key nuclear facilities in the country.

“That meant the end to their nuclear ambitions, at least for a period of time,” he added.

“The bomb went through it like it was butter, like it was absolute butter… the whole place was just destroyed.”

When asked whether Iran could have moved highly enriched uranium from the Fordow site before the attack, Trump insisted that was “very hard to do”.

“It’s very dangerous to do, it’s very heavy, very, very heavy, it’s a very hard thing to do,” he said.

“Plus, we didn’t give much notice because they didn’t know we were coming until just then.”
