HYDERABAD, July 12 — The majority of victims in yesterday’s speedboat accident in Vietnam were from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and were taking part in a corporate incentive tour.

The boat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members overturned about 400 metres from Hon May Rut Ngoai island near Phu Quoc island, killing 15 people, comprising 13 men and two women.

According to a list released by the Vietnamese authorities, 10 of the victims were from Tamil Nadu, while three were from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala.

They were all associated with Indian mobile phone company Lava, with 14 identified as retailers, distributors or sales promoters.

“We at Lava are deeply saddened to confirm that 14 of our channel partners and one member of our Lava team have tragically lost their lives in a boat accident earlier today near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam,” the company said in a post on X yesterday evening.

The group was in Vietnam as part of a trip organised by the company for distributors and employees from southern India, according to Indian media reports. — Bernama
