Kamala Harris leads Democratic presidential primary polls for 2028

Kamala Harris leads Democratic presidential primary polls for 2028

According to a poll that was released on Monday, former Vice President Kamala Harris would be the frontrunner for the Democratic Party in the 2028 elections by a substantial margin. The survey conducted by Echelon Insights showed that 26 per cent of Democrats and Democrat leaning voters supported Harris.

Harris was followed by the Former transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg, with 11 per cent and California Gov. Gavin Newsom with 10 per cent of the support, the New York Post reported. The others in the top five were Senator Cory Booker and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who gained 7 and 6 per cent of the votes, respectively.

Support for Newsom and Buttigieg increased slightly when Harris was taken out of the poll, with both polling at 12 per cent. Last month, it had been reported that Harris was mulling over running for Governor of California to succeed Newsom. Fundraisers who spoke to Politico said that no one is enthused about that. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had jumped to the top five in that scenario.

For the Republicans, Vice President JD Vance held  42 per cent of the support. He led the poll by 33 points over his rival, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who only has 9 per cent of the republican voters willing to vote for him.

Other Republican and Republican leaning voters support Secretary of State Marco Rubio (7 per cent), former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (6 per cent). Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy (5 per cent) and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (4 per cent).

Sixteen per cent of the respondents in the survey were unsure about who they would vote for.

Other early presidential primary polls have also shown that Democratic voters considered Harris as the ideal candidate. A poll conducted by the Economist/YouGov in April showed that 58 per cent of Democratic respondents would consider voting for Harris in the 2028 presidential primaries.
