Chinese envoy refutes U.S. lies on Xinjiang at UN Security Council

Posted on 25 July 2025 By jobuzo

Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, on Thursday strongly refuted groundless U.S. accusations related to China’s Xinjiang region during a UN Security Council open debate on cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In his remarks, Fu firmly rejected the baseless accusations from the U.S. representative and reiterated that Xinjiang currently enjoys social stability, economic prosperity and improved livelihoods for its people, describing the region as being in its best period of development.

“The U.S. has gone to great lengths to hype up the so-called Xinjiang issue in a vain attempt to interfere in China’s internal affairs and curb China’s development, only to lay bare their true colors, which are hegemonic and based on double standards.”Fu said.

Fu noted that over the past six years, more than 100 countries, including many Islamic states, have expressed support for China’s position on Xinjiang at the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. These countries have opposed politicizing human rights issues and using them as a pretext to interfere in other countries’ domestic affairs.

“This is a message loud and clear,” Fu stressed. “The U.S.’s scheme to contain China with Xinjiang is very much bankrupt, and its sinister intention to provoke bloc confrontation by discrediting and suppressing China, has failed miserably.”

Turning to the issue of human rights, Fu questioned the sincerity of the U.S. position.”If the U.S. truly cared about the human rights of Muslims, why does it turn a blind eye to the living hell in Gaza? Why has it ignored the historical injustices suffered by the Palestinian people?” He asked.

Fu went on to criticize the U.S. for neglecting its own chronic domestic issues, such as gun violence, racial discrimination and violations of its citizens’ dignity and rights. “Under the guise of human rights, it wantonly interferes in other countries’ internal affairs and violates the human rights of unnumbered people in developing nations,” he said.

“We urge the U.S. to reflect on its own ills and wrongdoings, change course and put more effort into practical, positive actions for international peace and security,” Fu concluded.
