Twitch issues statement after streamer Emiru assaulted at TwitchCon, fans enraged

A popular Twitch streamer and cosplayer, Emiru, was attacked at a Twitchcon meet and greet event in San Diego, United States.

Videos of the incident circulated online on X and Reddit, enraging fans.

In the footage, a male attendee is seen approaching Emiru, whose real name is Emily Schunk, and attempting to kiss her neck without consent. Security at the event intervened and pushed the man away. They also escorted Emiru off the stage for safety.

It was after the videos went viral that netizens began noticing the assailant had something in his hand as he approached the streamer. Many speculated that the man was holding a knife in his hands as he was pushed away.

Twitch also released a statement saying, “We’re aware of the incident involving streamer Emiru during TwitchCon and want to assure our community that we take creator safety extremely seriously.”

They said that the individual responsible for allowing the situation to occur has been “removed from their position effective immediately.”

The platform also said they are reviewing their safety protocols and “are implementing stronger on-site safety measures to ensure TwitchCon remains a safe and positive environment for everyone – creators, fans, and staff alike.”

Fans expressed outrage at the security for letting the man walk away freely after the incident. Some netizens said that the man should have been held for longer to ensure the incident did not occur again.

One fan said, “Someone just assaulted Emiru at TwitchCon, this might be the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen, he better face jail time.”

Another said on X, “Saw so many women saying they weren’t going to be attending TwitchCon this year because they don’t feel safe, and then this happens to Emiru on day one.”

Some fans were upset that the meet and greet was even a requirement for holding a show at the event.

Many also pointed out that the event lacked robust guards and security to the point where anyone could move towards the streamers so quickly.

It is not the first time the streamer has been harassed. Emiru, along with Valkyrae and Cinna, two other streamers, were harassed, threatened, and followed by a man while they livestreamed in Los Angeles in March 2025.
