\n US intelligence assessed Maduro allies were best placed to lead government after him\n <\/p>\n

Donald Trump is still talking, but here’s some more news to bring you…<\/p>\n

Our US partner network NBC News reports that a classified intelligence assessment said that top members of Nicolas Maduro’s regime were best positioned to lead a Venezuelan government after him.<\/p>\n

Citing a US official, it reports they believed this was the best way to maintain stability after its military action.<\/p>\n

This included Delcy Rodriguez, who was sworn in as the new president of the country yesterday, NBC says.<\/p>\n

It adds that this assessment was a factor in Trump’s administration not backing Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado’s opposition.<\/p>\n

The Wall Street Journal also reported on the assessment.<\/p>\n

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t comment directly on the assessment but told NBC: “President Trump is routinely briefed on domestic political dynamics all over the world.<\/p>\n

“The president and his national security team are making realistic decisions to finally ensure Venezuela aligns with the interests of the United States, and becomes a better country for the Venezuelan people.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
