Alleged livestream mocking of Quran sparks protest against Muslim transgender woman<\/h2>\n

On Sunday (10 May), thousands of Muslims reportedly gathered in Bangkok, Thailand to protest against a Muslim transgender woman.<\/p>\n

The individual involved, identified as Loh, who also goes by the name “Madam”, had allegedly mocked a Quranic verse during a livestream.<\/p>\n

According to Thaiger, the issue began a few days earlier, when controversy broke out over a group of transgender Muslim women wearing hijabs.<\/p>\n

The report stated that, according to Islamic principles, men are prohibited from dressing in a way that imitates women.<\/p>\n

A Muslim man then reportedly entered a livestream to advise Loh and the group.<\/p>\n

During the livestream, however, the group allegedly behaved inappropriately.<\/p>\n

They were accused of laughing, making mocking gestures, and altering the wording of a Quranic verse in a disrespectful manner.<\/p>\n

Loh allegedly changed the phrase “walad-dallin” to “walad-dog” while reciting the verse.<\/p>\n

The clip quickly spread online, not only in Thailand but also to countries with sizeable Muslim communities, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Arab countries, sparking anger.<\/p>\n

Muslims gather in Bangkok to demand apology<\/h3>\n

Following the incident, many Muslims reportedly demanded that Loh apologise.<\/p>\n

However, she allegedly responded defiantly on social media and said she was not bothered by the controversy, further fuelling public anger.<\/p>\n

Later, the chairman of a local mosque community, together with volunteers, arranged to meet Loh at a restaurant in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 53 on Sunday.<\/p>\n

When members of the public heard about the meeting, nearly a thousand people reportedly gathered at the location to demand an apology from Loh.<\/p>\n

Some individuals allegedly attempted to physically attack her, prompting authorities to deploy dozens of police officers to control the situation.<\/p>\n

Loh agrees to shave head and apologise<\/h3>\n

Loh eventually admitted fault and apologised to her family and the Muslim community for causing distress.<\/p>\n

She claimed that she had acted in a moment of emotion.<\/p>\n

According to the report, some Muslims present demanded that she slap her own mouth and shave her head as an act of atonement.<\/p>\n

Loh reportedly complied before police escorted her out of the area for her safety.<\/p>\n

Officers later took Loh to Wang Thonglang Police Station to prevent further unrest. Some Muslim representatives then arrived to negotiate with her.<\/p>\n

A representative said Loh would have to fulfil three conditions: shave her head, recite the Shahada to profess her faith, and post an apology to Muslims nationwide on her personal Facebook account.<\/p>\n

If Loh agreed to the conditions, the other party said they would not pursue the matter further.<\/p>\n

After nearly three hours of negotiations, with a senior police officer acting as mediator, Loh agreed to the three conditions.<\/p>\n
