{"id":22651,"date":"2026-07-02T07:20:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T07:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/no-one-is-coming-out-alive-venezuelas-rescue-phase-ends-as-food-crisis-begins\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T07:20:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T07:20:14","slug":"no-one-is-coming-out-alive-venezuelas-rescue-phase-ends-as-food-crisis-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/no-one-is-coming-out-alive-venezuelas-rescue-phase-ends-as-food-crisis-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018No one is coming out alive\u2019: Venezuela\u2019s rescue phase ends as food crisis begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>LA GUAIRA, (Venezuela), July 2 &mdash; Hope of finding more survivors faded Wednesday as Venezuela marked a week since twin earthquakes killed almost 2,300 people, while many who lived through the disaster were running desperately short on food.<\/p>\n<p>As the death toll mounted, Venezuela&rsquo;s interim president Delcy Rodriguez declared seven days of mourning, saying the country&rsquo;s &ldquo;soul is torn apart by the human losses.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of people remain unaccounted for.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of collapsed buildings in the hardest-hit city of La Guaira, just north of Caracas, have been marked with the letter &lsquo;D&rsquo; for &lsquo;deceased&rsquo; &ndash; a sign they had been searched with no signs of life found.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Time isn&rsquo;t wasted in a place where there is no expectation of recovering people alive,&rdquo; said Javier Rodes, the coordinator of a Spanish rescue team whose sniffer dog Nala searched in vain through the rubble for traces of life.<\/p>\n<p>There have been miracle survivors, such as a three-year-old boy found alive Tuesday, six days after Venezuela&rsquo;s most powerful quake in over a century.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/12-weeks-jail-for-school-it-support-technician-who-took-upskirt-videos-of-teachers\/\" class=\"template-1\"><span class=\"cta\">News :<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">&lt;div&gt;12 weeks' jail for school IT support technician who took upskirt videos of teachers&lt;\/div&gt;<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>But experts say trapped victims are unlikely to survive more than 72 hours.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No one is coming out of here, alive or dead,&rdquo; said Jose Rafael, standing among the ruins where his son is missing in the town of Caraballeda in La Guaira state.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere a group of residents was left frustrated after an American rescuer informed them there were &ldquo;no signs of life&rdquo; from another heap of rubble.<\/p>\n<p>Many had believed they would find their relatives alive after hearing sounds from within the debris.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela&rsquo;s National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said Wednesday that deaths had risen to 2,295, and more than 11,000 people were injured.<\/p>\n<p>He said almost 13,000 people had been left homeless.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_body\" readability=\"37\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/migrant-acquitted-in-first-trial-over-us-border-military-zones\/\" class=\"template-1\"><span class=\"cta\">News :<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Migrant acquitted in first trial over US border military zones<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>People queue to receive food and items from volunteers in Caraballeda, La Guaira state, Venezuela on June 30, 2026, following twin earthquakes on June 24. &mdash; AFP pic<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>A fight for food<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United Nations estimates 50,000 people are missing.<\/p>\n<p>The two powerful quakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5, shattered entire neighbourhoods in oil-rich Venezuela, which has suffered decades of economic crisis that devastated infrastructure and health services.<\/p>\n<p>The country is in a fragile transition six months after the United States ousted leader Nicolas Maduro, and lives under constant pressure from Washington for access to Venezuela&rsquo;s oil and other natural resources.<\/p>\n<p>The US has around 2,000 personnel assisting in the response, General Francis Donovan, the head of US Southern Command, told journalists on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>International rescue teams arrived from around the globe to dig out survivors, while locals are furious at the absence of the state in the aftermath of the disaster.<\/p>\n<p>With daily life in ruins, the focus is now shifting to survival.
