{"id":2381,"date":"2025-07-09T14:31:53","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T14:31:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/pritam-singhs-appeal-against-conviction-sentence-set-for-nov-4\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T14:31:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T14:31:53","slug":"pritam-singhs-appeal-against-conviction-sentence-set-for-nov-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/pritam-singhs-appeal-against-conviction-sentence-set-for-nov-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Pritam Singh&#8217;s appeal against conviction, sentence set for Nov 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div readability=\"54\">\n<p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The date for the appeal hearing for WP chief Pritam Singh, who was convicted in February over two counts of lying under oath to a parliamentary committee, has been set.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">In response to queries from The Straits Times, Singh&rsquo;s lawyer Mr Andre Jumabhoy said on July 9 the hearing will be held on Nov 4 at 10am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">After Singh was fined a total of $14,000 on Feb 17 following a trial, he said he would appeal his conviction and sentence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The Aljunied GRC MP was found guilty of two counts of lying to the Committee of Privileges, making him the first sitting opposition MP to be convicted of a criminal charge in almost 40 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He received the maximum fine of $7,000 for each charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">In his judgment, Deputy Principal District Judge Luke Tan ruled that Singh, who is the Leader of the Opposition, had wilfully lied to the Committee of Privileges about how he dealt with the untruth that former WP MP Raeesah Khan told in Parliament on Aug 3, 2021.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/12-weeks-jail-for-school-it-support-technician-who-took-upskirt-videos-of-teachers\/\" class=\"template-1\"><span class=\"cta\">News :<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">&lt;div&gt;12 weeks' jail for school IT support technician who took upskirt videos of teachers&lt;\/div&gt;<\/span><\/a><\/div><p class=\"font-secondary text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Ms Khan had lied about accompanying a sexual assault victim to a police station.
