KINGSTON, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) — Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness was elected to a third term after a general election held on the island on Wednesday, according to preliminary results released by the country’s electoral office.<\/p>\n

The preliminary results showed that the ruling Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) won 34 seats, while the opposition People’s National Party (PNP) secured 29 seats.<\/p>\n

The overall preliminary voter turnout was approximately 39.5 percent, said the office.<\/p>\n

PNP leader Mark Golding has conceded defeat, congratulating the JLP on its victory in the election.<\/p>\n

“I accept the results of these elections and although I’m obviously very disappointed in the outcome, I think it is only correct to expressly acknowledge the success that our opponents have managed to gain today,” he said. ■<\/span><\/p>\n
