{"id":8279,"date":"2025-10-02T11:47:44","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T11:47:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/dutch-warning-over-annoying-chatbots\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T11:47:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T11:47:44","slug":"dutch-warning-over-annoying-chatbots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/dutch-warning-over-annoying-chatbots\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch warning over \u2018annoying\u2019 chatbots"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>THE HAGUE, Oct 2 &mdash; Dutch authorities told companies and organisations today they should not rely solely on chatbots to communicate with consumers, describing their use as &ldquo;one of the biggest annoyances&rdquo; customers face.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Organisations that use chatbots in their services must always offer people the option to speak with a representative,&rdquo; said the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Firms must also ensure consumers are aware they are interacting with chatbots and that the machines do not provide evasive or incorrect answers, the AP said.<\/p>\n<p>The watchdog voiced concern about the growing use of AI-powered chatbots and warned that regulators would be looking into stricter rules.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Chatbots are becoming the main point of contact and the path towards human content is fading,&rdquo; the AP said in a new report.<\/p>\n<p>Increasingly advanced chatbot technology means consumers do not know whether they are speaking to a human or a machine, the report said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jobuzo.com\/en\/12-weeks-jail-for-school-it-support-technician-who-took-upskirt-videos-of-teachers\/\" class=\"template-1\"><span class=\"cta\">News :<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">&lt;div&gt;12 weeks' jail for school IT support technician who took upskirt videos of teachers&lt;\/div&gt;<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>After an initial unsatisfying interaction with a chatbot, consumers are often re-directed not to a human but to another chatbot, increasing frustration, said the AP.<\/p>\n<p>Officials are seeing a &ldquo;rapid increase&rdquo; in complaints about chatbots, said the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Market (ACM).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Recent research by the ACM shows that the lack of human interaction in customer service is one of the biggest annoyances.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch authorities urged the European Commission to establish clear guidelines for the design of AI-powered chatbots.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These must be fair, recognisable, and accessible.
