PYONGYANG, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday held a grand commemorative meeting at the May Day Stadium to celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Friday.<\/p>\n

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, delivered a speech at the event, which was attended by delegations from foreign parties and governments.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Kim reviewed the history of the party’s formation and its leading role in the country’s revolution.<\/p>\n

He said that by successfully leading social transformation of different stages under the banner of the Juche idea, the WPK has built a genuine people’s country, a powerful country that comprehensively embodies socialist ideas and ideals, while also making a significant contribution to advancing the international cause of independence and justice, Kim was quoted by the KCNA as saying.<\/p>\n

He noted that the WPK has persevered under the banner of independence and socialism despite adversities and that the DPRK’s international prestige as a faithful member of the socialist forces and a bulwark for independence and justice continues to grow.<\/p>\n

Kim added that he will work with the DPRK people to transform the country into a more affluent and beautiful socialist nation.<\/p>\n

The speech was followed by a grand mass gymnastics and artistic performance on Thursday evening, said the report. ■<\/span><\/p>\n
