We are looking for committed and enthusiastic individuals who are up to the challenge of rectifying historical issues.

The role

To be responsible to the Chief Accountant (or equivalent) for the completion of a number of reconciliation and control activities including bank and payroll.

Key requirements

To show flexibility in carrying out a range of duties according to the needs of the service and to be responsible for the completion and reconciliation of the bank accounts of Redditch Borough Council and/or Bromsgrove District Council, as allocated, on a regular basis but as a minimum, monthly.

To ensure that key dates relative to all payroll input data are adhered to as directed by Senior Payroll Officer and Financial Services Manager and to input all adjustments to monthly pay correctly in a timely manner onto the payroll systems, including overtime, car mileage, honorariums, attendance allowance and any other allowances.

Ensuring all such transactions are correctly authorised by an authorised person and to post the cash files to the ledger on a daily basis and ensure it reconciles to the cash receipting system.

To monitor income received from other Council sites and external services ensuring these match, investigating these issues and reporting any discrepancies to the Chief Accountant. Balancing Credit and Debit card payments. Liaising with Cashiers to resolve any issues regarding payments received and to notify each Council’s bank of any stopped cheques and process the details of any stopped or cancelled cheques on the appropriate ledger system.

To complete all other reconciliations as directed including Payroll, Car Parking Income, Council Tax and NDR and income to other core systems as directed.

Skills & experience

You will have the following knowledge and experience:

Experience of interpreting complex financial data.
Experience of working in a financial environment dealing with reconciliations of financial data
Experience of bank/payroll reconciliations
Basic understanding of accounting principles
Ability to use Excel spreadsheets at a basic level
Ability to deal with queries in a professional manner
Good analytical and numerical skills
Ability to prioritise workloads and achieve key deliverables/outcomes
Flexibility in carrying out a range of duties according to the needs of the service
