The Vacancy

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is the leading professional association and trade union for all school and college leaders. ASCL is seeking to appoint a Director of Member Support. This role will report to the General Secretary of ASCL. 

Our members are responsible for the education of more than four million young people and children. We work to shape national education policy, provide advice and support to our members and deliver first-class professional development. 

Hybrid working – a combination of working from home and being in-person at our Leicester HQ (frequency to be agreed at interview). 

Now is an exciting time to join the Association following the recent appointment of Pepe Di’Iasio as our new General Secretary. Pepe is supported by the Presidential Team comprising serving school leaders elected to represent members, together with the Council and Executive they have a close partnership with ASCL Leadership Group who manage the running of the Association. Pepe’s leadership marks the start of a new phase of strategic development and evolution for the Association. 

You will be a key member of ASCL UK’s Leadership Group, supporting our strategic outward-facing member offer but also overseeing the essential processes and working of the Association in leading our efforts in ensuring unparalleled service to our valued members. 

The Director of Member Support is responsible for leading all aspects of the association’s work to support ASCL members, including the oversight of the legal, field work, industrial relations, and hotline teams. The vacancy arises through the retirement of the present postholder. 

This is an exciting opportunity to occupy a national role at the forefront of a profession-led educational association. 

As the Director of Member Support, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the member experience. You will lead a team of dedicated support professionals, developing strategies to enhance member satisfaction and retention. 

The role requires an individual who can work strategically in addition to taking a hands on, operational approach in terms of supporting members. 

Your ability to lead, influence and guide others drawing on your previous experience is an important requirement of the role regardless of your industry / sector background. 

This role is paid on a five-point incremental range from £79,086 – £87,232 per annum. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses are also covered. The postholder will work from home, with IT and telephone equipment provided, with attendance at ASCL HQ in Leicester and other locations across the UK as required, with overnight stays expected.
