ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Library Operations and Facilities department provides frontline help for faculty, students and community members to locate, select, and access print and electronic resources. Operations staff and student assistants organize and maintain in-house materials to ensure that patrons can find materials where they should be, when they need them. Management of the Uborrow program and the Course Reserves program helps to meet the resource needs of faculty and students and help defray the costs of textbooks. Operations and Facilities staff ensure a clean and welcoming environment is maintained for all patrons through daily operational checks of the facility.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As part of the Library Operations and Facilities department, the Library Specialist is responsible for coordinating the workflow for processing Textbook Affordability Project (TAP) materials, Course Reserve materials, and streaming media requests; monitoring and maintaining those collections for quality of condition, replacement needs, and new editions, and creating and maintaining blibliographic cataloging records; and coordinating and communicating processes with faculty and other University departments. The position is also responsible for the compilation and dissemination of all Course Reserves and TAP statistical reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates the workflow necessary for processing Textbook Affordability Project materials, requests for Course Reserve materials, and streaming media requests; identifies and makes recommendations for process and workflow improvement. Provides training, coaching, feedback, and assignments to part-time student assistants.

Monitors and maintains the current Textbook Affordability Project collection and the Course Reserves collections for quality of condition, replacement, and new editions. Creates and maintains bibliographic cataloging records for Textbook Affordability Project collection, reserve materials, media, and other materials as assigned within the Library Management System.

Compiles new textbook order requests; maintains and monitors a budget expense report for each semester and fiscal year; corresponds with Acquisitions regarding budget status; serves as liaison between Acquisitions and faculty. Maintains data and statistics and provides regular and annual reports on Textbook Affordability Project and Course Reserve operations.

Coordinates processes for faculty course reserves and scheduled short-term reserve services. Corresponds with faculty regarding individual course reserves needs and acts as a liaison between Course Reserves and university departments requiring media and textbook reserve services.

Oversees circulation functions at the Library Services Desk during assigned shifts.. Assists library patrons with a variety of matters: instructs patrons in use of online library catalog; helps to locate materials; answers general reference and informational questions; tracks reference questions; provides reference referrals; collaborates with reference librarians; checks materials in and out; organizes library materials; and reports security and building maintenance problems reported by patrons.

Serves as backup for various staff tasks within the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a high school diploma and four years of experience in a customer service environment. Appropriate college coursework may substitute for the required experience.
