Little boy found dead near home in Rayong, Thailand

On 14 Nov, a two-year-old boy in Nikhom Phatthana District, Rayong, Thailand, was found dead by the roadside.

Police said the child was discovered naked and with severe wounds.

Due to the bite marks on his body, it is suspected that the toddler was a victim of an animal attack.

Neighbouring eatery denies claims made by father

The boy’s father, Mr Thanathep (name transliterated), a single parent who works nights as a rubber tapper, said he had left his son at a neighbouring eatery before going to work.

When he returned after midnight, his child was missing.

He claimed to have looked for his son through the night without any success.

However, he discovered the boy’s body the next afternoon when he resumed his search.

According to Mr Thanathep, his young son was lying face down without clothes about 500m from his home.

Later, the eatery’s manager told the media that the father had never entrusted the child to them.

They added that the staff only provided him food because he was usually left playing alone when his father went to work.

Mother believed someone had harmed him, citing bruising on his body

The boy’s 21-year-old mother told reporters she separated from Mr Thanathep two years ago, citing domestic violence and his drug use.

After seeing a photograph of the body, she said the bruising looked as though the child had been beaten with a stick.

The mother believes someone harmed him.

She ruled out the possibility of a car crash, noting the lack of witness reports.

She added that the nearby road was busy in the morning, with commuters passing by.

Once the case is settled, the woman plans to bring her son’s body to Chanthaburi for funeral rites.

Investigation underway to determine if boy was killed or fatally attacked by animal

Police are investigating the case, and will re-interview the father, neighbour, and other relevant witnesses.

Officers said it is too early to conclude whether the child was killed and then dumped, or if he was fatally attacked by an animal.

The body has been sent to Rayong Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause and timing of death.

If the autopsy confirms homicide, police say a murder probe will follow.
