ISLAMABAD, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday outlined his government’s socioeconomic reforms and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation during the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference in Islamabad.

Sharif emphasized that peace and security form the foundation of sustainable development, noting that ongoing global conflicts underscore the critical importance of stability. He said Pakistan remains fully prepared to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity while advancing inclusive growth domestically.

On regional issues, the prime minister stressed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is essential for regional connectivity, development, and prosperity. He called on the Afghan government to take effective action against militant groups operating from Afghan soil and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to cooperate on shared security concerns.

Sharif highlighted domestic reforms aimed at empowering youth and women, expanding SME financing, and enhancing digital skills and leadership opportunities. He also pointed to Pakistan’s collaboration with international financial institutions and development partners to strengthen financial systems, climate resilience, and investment promotion.

The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s advocacy for oppressed populations globally, and underscored the country’s active engagement in multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Economic Cooperation Organization, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Sharif called on nations to work together to promote peace, sustainable development, and collective security, stressing the need for long-term stability and shared prosperity. ■
