Pakistan PM Shebaz Sharif quick to blame India despite Pak Taliban claiming responsibility for Islamabad suicide attack

Just a few hours after a deadly suicide blast killed 12 people in Islamabad on Tuesday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was quick to draw conclusions and pass the blame on India without evidence.

This comes as the Pakistan Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack near Islamabad District Judicial Complex. Around 27 people were also injured in the blast.

“Judges, lawyers and officials who carried out rulings under Pakistan’s un-Islamic laws were targeted,” the TTP said in a statement.

Despite this, Sharif alleged that “Indian-sponsored terrorist proxies” were behind the Islamabad suicide attack as well as another attack on a cadet college in Wana near Afghanistan border.

“These attacks are a continuation of India’s state-sponsored terrorism aimed at destabilizing Pakistan,” Sharif was quoted by Associated Press of Pakistan as saying on Tuesday.

“No condemnation is enough for these attacks being carried out from Afghan soil under Indian patronage,” he said.

India has not responded to the allegations yet. However, the MEA has dismissed such allegations levelled by the neighbouring country in the past.

Earlier, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the suicide bombing was a wake-up call for the nation. “We are in a state of war. Anyone who thinks that the Pakistan army is fighting this war in the Afghan-Pakistan border region and the remote areas of Balochistan, today’s suicide attack at the Islamabad district courts is a wake-up call,” he said.

The Pakistan Taliban has carried out over 600 terror attacks in Pakistan so far in 2025, most of which concentrated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan.
