A day after calling Volodymyr Zelenskyy ‘stupid’, Trump says Davos meeting with Ukrainian leader was ‘good’

President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday held a closed-door meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The meeting between the two leaders met for a “brief one-on-one conversation” and spoke for around one hour behind closed doors, revealed Zelenskyy spokesperson Serhii Nykyforov.

Following the meeting, Trump said, “I met President Zelenskyy here; the meeting was good. We (US delegation) are meeting President Putin today or tomorrow.”

‘The war has to end’

When asked what would be his message to Putin, Trump said, “The war has to end. A lot of people have been killed”.

This comes a day after Trump called Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘stupid’ for not signing a peace deal. He recalled that the US almost made Russia agree to a deal several times but Zelenskyy didn’t agree, “It’s a very difficult balance…it’s a blood bath. It’s horrible what’s happening. Drones are killing thousands of people a week. We have to get it stopped.”

“I believe they’re at a point now where they come together and get a deal done. And if they don’t, they’re stupid; it’s for both of them. And I know they’re not stupid. But if they don’t get this done, they are stupid. So, I don’t want to insult anyone, but you got to get this deal done. Too many people are dying. It’s not worth it,” the US president added.
