Body with gunshot wounds found following video of JB petrol station shooting

Posted on 5 July 2025 By jobuzo

A dramatic video showing a shooting at a Johor Bahru petrol station has gone viral – and just hours later, a man’s body bearing gunshot wounds was found at a local hospital.

The video, widely circulated online, shows a black car pulling into a petrol station in Gelang Patah – a rest stop near the Second Link frequently visited by Singapore drivers.

While the vehicle is parked in a corner, a silver car pulls up and four masked men in black baseball caps emerge and begin hacking at the car’s right windows.

Gunshots ring out from inside the black car, prompting the attackers to flee – three of them scrambling back into their car, while the fourth runs out of the station and disappears from view.

The incident happened at 12.12am on July 3.

About 90 minutes later, at 1.40am, the body of a man with gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen was left at the emergency department of Sultanah Aminah Hospital, said Johor Police, according to The Star.

The police are now attempting to establish links between the dead man and those involved in the recorded incident.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said in a statement on July 4 that CCTV footage from the hospital showed two individuals dropping off the body in a dark-coloured car before leaving. Fingerprint analysis identified the deceased as a 42-year-old man from Kedah with four previous convictions.

A post-mortem has confirmed that the man died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Mr Kumar added that initial investigations led to the arrests of three suspects between the ages of 30 and 40 – two Malaysians and an Indian national – in Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur, at around 7pm on the same day.

The operation was conducted by a joint team from Johor police headquarters and the Iskandar Puteri district police.

Among the items seized were the upper receiver of a Glock 19 pistol, a licensed firearm permit, six rounds of 9mm bullets, bullet casings and a black car.

According to the police chief, one suspect works as a licensed personal bodyguard. While he possesses a firearms licence, authorities are still investigating the ownership of the seized pistol and whether it was used legally.

The case is being investigated for murder, rioting with weapons and discharging a firearm outside of a designated firing range.

“This is an isolated incident. There is no broader threat to public safety, and Johor remains secure,” said Mr Kumar.
