The media event “China in Springtime: China’s Development Shared Opportunities for the World” hosted by China Media Group, was held in New York on March 13.

President of China Media Group Shen Haixiong, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng, Chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council Sean Stein, and renowned economist and Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs delivered video remarks.

Chinese Consul General in New York Chen Li, Chairman of the Kuhn Foundation Robert Lawrence Kuhn, and President of the China General Chamber of Commerce-USA Hu Wei attended the event and delivered speeches.

Nearly 100 representatives from the business, academic, and media communities of China and the United States participated. The event also marked the launch of the Global Dialogue series “China in Springtime: China’s Development Shared Opportunities for the World.”

“As an important window into China in the new era, the annual Two Sessions once again draw global attention. This year’s sessions adopted important documents, including the Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan,” Shen said.

Shen also noted that, this roadmap for China’s high-quality development also provides the world with a new “list of opportunities”. During the Two Sessions, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of expanding high-standard opening up, actively exploring global markets, and better connecting with the international economic cycle. This once again underscores China’s firm commitment that its door of opening-up will only be wider.

“Since the beginning of this year, China’s new quality productive forces have been gaining strong momentum. From China’s AI models gaining global popularity, to a group of humanoid robots performing Kung Fu at the CMG 2026 Spring Festival Gala, to the rise of cross-sector models such as “film plus tourism”, “film plus dining”, with the film economy helping drive consumption, China, as an “oasis of certainty,” continues to nurture new opportunities for development,” Shen said.

Xie Feng, the Chinese Ambassador to the United States also delivered video remarks saying, “the 15th Five-Year Plan also creates broader space for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the United States. This year is a “big year” for China-U.S. relations. We will see a series of high-level exchanges, and also respectively host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit.”

Xie also said that, “we believe that, under the strategic guidance of the two Presidents, as long as our two sides adhere to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, China and the United States will be fully able to find a right way to get along in the new era, and advance the steady, sound and sustainable development of bilateral relations, for the benefit of both our countries and the whole world.”

China’s Consul General in New York, Chen Li, delivered remarks to the attendees, noting the Two Sessions once again sent a clear message that China’s door to opening up will only open wider, creating more opportunities and broader space for foreign companies, including American businesses, to invest in China.

Chen also pointed out that recently the phrase “becoming Chinese” has been trending on U.S. social media platforms, with many people learning the Chinese language, trying to cook Chinese dishes, and exploring Chinese culture. This reflects the enduring curiosity between the peoples of the two countries and their shared aspiration for a better life.

China political and economics commentator Robert Lawrence Kuhn told the crowd that, high-quality development will remain the defining theme of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, with new quality productive forces emerging as a key engine driving future growth. China will place greater emphasis on building a modern industrial system, with particular focus on advancing priority areas such as artificial intelligence.

Kuhn  also said the 15th Five-Year Plan will continue to uphold a people-centered development philosophy, steadily advancing initiatives in social welfare, common prosperity, and rural revitalization. China will further expand high-level opening-up and provide foreign enterprises with a more fair, transparent, and predictable business environment.

Kuhn also noted China is playing an increasingly important role in global affairs. China’s development cannot be separated from the world, and global prosperity also needs China.

Chairman of China General Chamber of Commerce – USA, Hu Wei, also spoke, saying that as the world’s two largest economies, China and the United States have closely intertwined development opportunities, and their business communities maintain strong ties. The business sectors in both countries widely hope that the two sides will continue dialogue, expand cooperation, and enhance mutual trust, writing more success stories of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

Hu Wei noted that this event has provided a valuable platform for the international community to better understand China’s commitment to high-level opening-up and high-quality development. It has also created positive conditions for the Chinese and American business communities to strengthen communication and build greater mutual trust.

Sean Stein, President of U.S.-China Business Council, noted that the United States and China hold pivotal positions in the global economic landscape, and both are dynamic and highly innovative economies. He shared that a recent study found China’s ability to scale and innovate in medical discoveries has grown, with 37% of all new drugs being discovered and developed in China. That’s up from 5% just five years ago.

He added that the United States and China have broad opportunities for collaboration in areas such as life sciences. Both sides should focus on shared interests and major concerns, while the business community should work to promote more practical outcomes in economic and trade cooperation to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, called China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, “very impressive”. With strong execution capacity and a sustained spirit of innovation, China is accelerating the development of a green, clean, and digital economic system, Sachs noted. This process will not only promote higher-quality growth in China’s economy, but its achievements will also benefit the world.

Sachs noted that China is currently advancing development in several key areas and holds a global leading position in fields such as green energy, advanced computing, and quantum computing.

“It builds on the progress of the past decades, but especially the past 10 years, and it’s going to be a huge benefit for the whole world actually because throughout the emerging and developing countries for almost all of whom China is the lead trade partner, these new technologies are going to be a breakthrough for those countries as well,” Sachs said.

At the event, guests from the investment and technology sectors engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including China’s technological innovation and the opportunities brought by its high- quality development to the world. Participants widely noted that China’s innovations in areas such as embodied robotics, electric vehicles, and solar panels are among the world’s leading technologies and will continue to drive global technological advancement. China’s comprehensive manufacturing supply chain also provides broad opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation and shared success between China and countries around the world.

The “China in Springtime: China’s Development, Shared Opportunities for the World” Global Dialogue series will continue to be held in multiple countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.
