The 12-player roster of the Chinese national basketball team for the FIBA Asia Cup was confirmed on Monday, with forward Zhang Ning and point guard Xu Jie late scratches.

The 12 participants are Wang Junjie, Zhu Junlong, Li Xiangbo, Yu Jiahao, Zhao Rui, Zhao Jiayi, Hu Jinqiu, Hu Mingxuan, Gao Shiyan, Liao Sanning, Cheng Shuaipeng and Lei Meng.

In a statement, the Chinese team said that their coaching staff had decided the roster “on the basis of overall preparation needs for the FIBA Asia Cup,” and submitted it to the organizing committee on Monday.

The Asia Cup will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from August 5-17. China are drawn in Group C along with Saudi Arabia, India and Jordan.

As the most decorated team in the tournament’s history with 16 titles, most recently in 2015 on home soil, China have fallen short in the past two editions, exiting at the quarterfinal stage on both occasions.

China will begin their campaign against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
