A new video released by the House Oversight Committee shows convicted sex trafficker Ghislane Maxwell pleading the Fifth during her deposition.
Maxwell is seen refusing to answer as she is asked if she helped convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein traffic minor girls and whether she instructed them to provide sexual favours.
The 64-year-old is currently serving a 20-year sentence at the minimum security Federal Prison camp Bryan, Texas.
According to emails she sent to friends and family in August of 2025, obtained by NBC News, Maxwell seemed very satisfied with the conditions at the the institution compared to her previous facility in Florida. “The institution is run in an orderly fashion, which makes for a safer, more comfortable environment for all people concerned, inmates and guards alike,” wrote Maxwell.
She was moved to Texas after an interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal attorney, last summer.
Maxwell is an unusual prisoner at the ‘Club Feb’, the nickname for the Texas prison. Most prisoners there are convicted of non-violent offences and white-collar crimes.
The move to transfer Maxwell to the lax prison was condemned by employees of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, with many pointing out that she was being given preferential treatment.
Club Fed gives its prisoners a running track, access to music programs, intramural competitions, social and cultural events, and table tennis, The Daily Beast reported.
There are also no cell blocks or guard towers.
To a relative Maxwell wrote, “I am much happier here and more importantly safe.“
Maxwell’s new deposition video also drew backlash after her attorney, David Oscar Markus, said on X, “Ghislaine Maxwell invoked her Constitutional right to silence this morning before @RepJamesComer and the House Oversight Committee.”
Speaking to the panel, he said,”On my advice, Ghislaine Maxwell will respectfully invoke her Fifth Amendment right to silence and decline to answer questions today even though she would very much like to answer your questions.”
“If this Committee and the American public truly want to hear the unfiltered truth about what happened, there is a straightforward path. Ms Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump,” Markus added.

“For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing. Ms Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.”
Democrat politicians accused Maxwell of using the hearing to push for clemency.
Maxwell is the only person convicted in relation to Epstein.
Jeffery Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial.
