Finding the value of nature
Ralph Chami is the founder of Blue Green Future, an organization that provides policy advice on the economic value of nature.
“The whale is providing humanity a service, sequestering carbon. That service is valuable,” Chami said in an interview with Full Frame host Mike Walter. “How much should we pay the whale? That’s a eureka moment … The whale is providing a service far more valuable than what I’m providing as an economist. They’re helping us fight climate change.”

The thrill of finding rare birds
John Mittermeier is the Director of the Search for Lost Birds at the American Bird Conservancy.
“I think you hear a lot about the extinction crisis. We’re in the midst of the sixth mass extinction. We are losing all these different species. But often that’s a pretty abstract idea… Lost birds are a way to really understand what’s going on,” Mittermeier said.
“If we want to try and save biodiversity, we have to be aware of extinction, and we have to be willing to take action to prevent it,” he said.
