A man who stole undergarments left out to dry along HDB corridors and secretly photographed a woman at an MRT station has been sentenced to four weeks’ jail.

The accused, Zhang Xiaochun (transliterated), 34, faced five charges including voyeurism, theft, and dishonest misappropriation of property. He pleaded guilty to two.

Multiple complaints filed

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred on July 3 at Block 895A Woodlands Drive 50.

The victim, 32, and her family had hung their laundry along the corridor outside their unit. At about 4.35pm, Zhang walked past, saw no one around, and stole a black bra before quickly leaving the scene.

His actions were caught on CCTV, and the victim later lodged a police report after realising her underwear was missing.

On July 28, another woman reported her underwear and bra stolen, with CCTV footage capturing Zhang in the act.

While patrolling the area during investigations, police spotted the accused, who matched the complainants’ description. A search of his home uncovered several sets of women’s bras and underwear.

Photos of woman’s chest found

Following his arrest, police examined his mobile phone and discovered four photos taken from a high angle, aimed at a woman’s chest and the side of her face.

Police also examined Zhang’s mobile phone after his arrest and discovered four photos taken at an MRT station on July 27. The images, shot from a high angle, showed a woman’s chest and the side of her face.

Zhang admitted he did not know the woman but had been attracted to her and secretly photographed her.

In court, he pleaded for leniency, saying he regretted his actions and the distress caused to the victims. He also acknowledged that he should not have violated the victims’ privacy.
