Lavrov: US has not responded to Russia’s proposal on New START treaty

Posted on 17 March 2026 By jobuzo

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that the United States has not responded to Russia’s proposal regarding the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).

In a video address to participants of the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference, Lavrov said the current arms control situation remains complex. He noted that the New START treaty between Russia and the United States expired on February 5, 2026.

Lavrov added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had proposed that both sides voluntarily continue observing the treaty’s limits on deployed intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, heavy bombers and their nuclear warheads, but the proposal has not received a response from the United States.
