Minneapolis shooting: ICE under immense heat after Renee Nicole Good’s killing

Posted on 12 January 2026 By jobuzo

ICE is under intense fire as nationwide protests surge following the killing of Renee Nicole Good; hundreds of demonstrators are flooding the streets to demand an end to federal impunity and a full investigation into the fatal shooting.

The demonstrators demanded that the governor of Minnesota and the mayor of Minneapolis use their authority to hold the ICE agents accountable for their actions.

As the situation remained tense in many cities, the Trump administration is planning to send “hundred more” federal officials to Minneapolis. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that more officials will be sent in order to ensure the safety of the ICE and Border Patrol individuals working in the area.

Anti-ICE protests swept across the US, including Austin, Seattle, New York and Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Indian-origin Congressman Shri Thanedar announced that he intended to introduce legislation to dismantle the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and end its current enforcement authority.

The bill, the ‘Abolish ICE Act, ‘ is a step toward justice, accountability, and a more humane approach to immigration policy, he said.

The proposed legislation would eliminate ICE, which was created in 2003 under the Department of Homeland Security.

Commenting on Noem’s claim of Good committing an act of ‘domestic terrorism’ and ‘weaponised’ her car to attack ICE agents, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told CNN that anybody can see that this victim is not a domestic terrorist.

President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance supported Jonathan Ross and termed his shooting as “self-defence”.

However, the FBI has taken over the investigation, while leaders raise concerns about the fairness of the inquiry. “Deep mistrust over the federal investigation…because so many of the things that we are hearing are not true,” said Frey. After the incident, the Minnesota administration has launched a separate inquiry into the shooting. The officials alleged that the federal agencies are not cooperating with their independent investigation.

“If it was an FBI investigation that was done jointly with an investigation from the [Minnesota] Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, we could have some trust that there were entities and individuals at the table that were properly reviewing the evidence,” Frey said.
