An unnamed person has been detained for questioning in connection with the abduction and disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the Pima County sheriff said on Tuesday.

The person was detained at a traffic stop south of Tucson, Arizona, earlier in the day, according to the sheriff’s department.

“The subject is currently being questioned in the Nancy Guthrie investigation,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement. “

Authorities had also released video surveillance footage showing an armed masked person at Guthrie’s doorstep on the night she was abducted, hours before the arrest.

Many questioned why it took so long for authorities to release the footage and what it means for privacy.

Sherif Nanos had earlier said that Nancy’s camera was disconnected, and Guthrie didn’t have a subscription the the camera company.

The investigators worked with a tech company on the difficult forensic task of recovering the video.

The video was released a week after the woman’s disappearance.

It is not clear how the FBI was able to access the video, NBC News reported. Experts told the news channels that it was possible in some cases to collect data from complex infrastructure that enable cloud based cameras to become a common household feature.

FBI director Kash Patel said on X, “Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors — including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.”

Patel shared photos and videos on social media of a person wearing a ski mask and gloves who appeared “to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door.”

Nancy Guthrie, 84, is the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. She was last seen around 9:45 pm on January 31 when she was dropped off at her home by family members after dinner.
