Nepal Airlines apologises for map showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan

Nepal Airlines has issued an apology on Thursday after a distorted map of India that it shared on social media drew intense backlash.

The carrier had posted a map of its network in which the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir was shown as part of Pakistan.

In a statement, the airline said the map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries.

“We sincerely apologise for the error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels,” it said.

“The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines.”

The airline said it had immediately removed the post and is conducting an internal review to ensure its materials meet the highest standards of accuracy.

“We deeply value our strong relationships with our neighbours and friends in the region and regret any offence the post has caused,” it added.

Earlier, several Indians took to social media to criticise Nepal Airlines over the controversial post, pointing out that India has been consistently supporting Nepal and its economy.

Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav even alleged that altering the Indian map was a “deliberate act” by Nepal Airlines.
