Seville and Thompson seal Jamaican 1-2 over Lyles in 100-meter final

Oblique Seville did not prove anything to himself that he did not already know with his sensational run in the men’s 100-meter final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships on Sunday night. What he did do was silence his critics, whose voices were finally drowned out by a roaring crowd at Tokyo’s National Stadium.

Seville outsprinted compatriot Kishane Thompson and American superstar Noah Lyles to reclaim the title of world’s fastest man for Jamaica in a thrilling and tense final. Seville won in a personal-best time of 9.77 seconds in front of a crowd of over 60,000, including Jamaican legend Usain Bolt.

Thompson ran a 9.82 to complete a Jamaican 1-2, while Lyles finished in a season-best time of 9.89.
