While Suri Cruise is often in the pages of tabloids for being the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, she deserves to be in the spotlight outside of her parents’ messy uncoupling and divorce in 2012. Throughout the years and despite her mother’s attempts to keep her life private, Suri’s striking sense of style has always been documented in the pages of magazines, especially as she got older and dabbled in designer looks. Here’s a look at her journey to becoming a fashion icon!
As a toddler, she already rocked designer looks
At just 7 months old, Suri was styled in a Giorgio Armani dress at her parents’ wedding. The designer himself commented on the look, stating that she wore a $750 “little white wool bloomer dress, decorated in tulle.” This sparked interest and established Suri as a fashionista. At three years old, her closet was filled with high-fashion looks valued at around $2 million, earning her the title of most stylish child by British site Twisted Twee in 2012, where she beat out both Blue Ivy and Willow Smith.
She loved a printed dress and ballet flats
In a 2009 “Access Hollywood” interview with Katie Holmes, Suri’s mother opened up about how her daughter, then three years old, was opinionated about her outfits and wore what she wanted, concluding “sparkly things” and “bright colors.” Holmes added, “She has an idea of what she wants to wear every day. So do I, so we go with it.” She often wore patterned dresses in colors such as lime green, hot pink, light blue, and white, along with Burberry-belted dresses and her signature ballet flats.
She added mature accents to her looks at a young age
While she was seen sporting stuffed animals as an accessory, she also began to experiment with handbags and high heels. Katie Holmes defended the decision to let her wear heels, saying that they “are actually ballroom dancing shoes for kids” and that Suri loved wearing them. Some people still criticized the fact that she wore heels and lipstick at just five years old. In 2011, she was seen with a hot pink bowling hat, a “Little Mermaid” handbag, and a dark blue dress paired with red lipstick, making for an undeniably chic look.

At one point, she took a more frugal and simplistic approach to style
Designer pieces weren’t everything for Suri. Katie Holmes also embraces refurbished dresses and hand-me-downs, as she was used to sharing clothes from her own childhood. She even tried to make her daughter some DIY clothes, saying, “I started making clothes for Suri when she was born, designing dresses, and then having seamstresses sew them, because I don’t sew very well.” When Suri moved to NYC for private school, she wore a uniform rather than her usual designer looks, and outside school, she chose solid colors and unique cuts.

She had a pink phase and also loved bows
2013 was the year of pink for Suri Cruise, who explored her passion for the bright and girly color. In December of that year, she was seen wearing a skirt, puffer jacket, scarf, and ear muffs, all in various shades of pink. While she incorporated other colors, her love for pink was obvious, including a pink arm cast after breaking her arm. She also loved bows and wore them during many outings, whether her hair was pinned up or loose and cascading.

She and her mother would often coordinate chic outfits
In not so many words, she gets it from her mama! Despite having her own sense of style, she has worn coordinated matching outfits with her mother on public outings, from patterned tops to matching peacoats in different shades. It was clear that Suri occasionally embraced her mom’s style, and as her mini-me, the decision wasn’t surprising! A particularly chic look was in 2018 with their matching floral dresses at the American Ballet Theatre Spring Gala. Suri wore a light blue Dolce & Gabbana dress with red roses, while her mother wore a mint green dress with sheer floral designs in a deeper green.

She adores an athleisure moment
Though there are many photos of Suri Cruise in embroidered heels and chic gowns, she also loves a dressed-down moment. In 2019, she was spotted entering a yoga class, sporting adorable lavender leggings and a basic tee, topped off with floral slides. Her mother is a fan of various workouts, and the habit was passed onto her daughter, with Holmes saying, “Sometimes I work out with my daughter. It just depends on the day. We have our routines, and occasionally they overlap.” Suri often donned cool-girl athleisure looks that suited her well during her teenage years.

NYC fashion blended with other pieces
After the COVID-19 pandemic, she combined classic New York streetwear with vintage designer pieces, helping define her signature style as a teen. On one outing, she wore 1970s-style flared jeans, a light blue puffer jacket, and brown cowboy boots. Though she was traditionally known for her NYC-inspired outfits, this look showcased a new style of Suri’s that we hadn’t seen before, and it continued through her high school years, most notably with a Brooklyn-style vintage dress featuring a bustier-style top and earth-tone accents, worn to her senior prom in 2024.
