BANGKOK, Oct 31 — Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized over two million herbal inhalers worth 120 million baht from four illegal manufacturing facilities.

According to The Nation, the raid was conducted in cooperation with the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) and the Samut Sakhon Provincial Public Health Office.

Investigations revealed that the Hong Thai Herbal Inhalers were contaminated with harmful microorganisms, which led to the raid, the English daily reported.

The company, despite holding a valid manufacturing licence for a factory in Bang Phai, Bangkok, was secretly producing the inhalers at unapproved locations.

Yesterday, authorities confiscated over 2.35 million units of nine types of herbal products during raids at four illegal sites. The seized items are estimated to be worth more than 120 million baht.

FDA secretary-general Supatra Boonserm highlighted the need for strict adherence to the law, warning that producing or selling counterfeit herbal products could result in up to ten years in prison, a fine of one million baht, or both.

She confirmed that the FDA would swiftly initiate a recall of any counterfeit or unsafe inhalers related to this case. The products have been sent for further analysis at the Department of Medical Sciences, with results to be disclosed soon.

“The contaminated Hong Thai herbal inhalers found at these four unauthorised facilities come in various formulations and production batches,” Supatra told The Nation.

She also advised consumers to exercise caution when buying herbal products, urging them to check for irregularities or unauthorised labelling.
