US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he mediated between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. This is despite India’s external affairs ministry dismissing the claims.
Speaking at the Board of Peace event in Washington, Trump this time claimed that 11 jets were shot down during the military standoff. However, he did not specify which country’s jets he was referring to.
“They both wanted to fight. But when it came to money, nothing like money. When it came to losing a lot of money, they said, ‘I guess we don’t want to fight’. And we solved that deal in two-three days,” Trump said.
And we did. We said these are two very powerful, two nuclear nations. And I don’t want to say what was going to happen, but, you know, bad things happen… 11 jets were shot down, very expensive jets, and they were all in. Both of them were all in, and now they’re not,” he added.
Trump has claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan more than 80 times since May 2025. But India has maintained that the ceasefire was reached after direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two sides.
Trump also claimed that he had threatened to put 200 per cent tariffs on India and Pakistan if they did not stop fighting.
Another claim that he repeated once again was that he stopped eight wars during the first year of his current term. The event was attended by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and leaders of other nations.
