Russian drone strikes on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv killed two people and injured 28 others, including three children, early Wednesday, according to Mayor Igor Terekhov. In a statement on Telegram, he said 17 drone attacks targeted two city districts overnight.

Fires broke out in more than 15 flats within a five-storey building in the Slobidskyi district, while several homes were damaged in Osnovyansky. Terekhov also warned that some residents may still be trapped under the rubble.

The attack comes amid an intensification of Russian bombardments across Ukraine, despite growing international calls — including from the United States — for Moscow to halt its full-scale invasion, now in its third year.

Recent peace talks held in Turkey failed to achieve a breakthrough, with Russia refusing to agree to an unconditional ceasefire.
