UN@80: A kaleidoscope of beautiful moments in our shared home

Posted on 27 August 2025 By jobuzo

As the United Nations celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2025, CGTN is collaborating with global partners to launch the “One Home: Shared Future” Visual Storytelling Initiative, inviting young people around the world to capture and share their vision for humanity’s future.

Among the creators, some have chosen to share their perspectives through the lens, and here is the fourth collection of images they have showcased.

Cars and Geese: Looking out through the abandoned vehicle, I see a peaceful lake. Several white geese are wandering freely in nature, and the boundary between humans and the environment softly blurs at this moment. This scene is not just a snapshot taken through the car window, but also a reflection: under the ongoing expansion of human activities, can we still preserve a habitat for wild animals? Through sensible ecological protection and community involvement, can we allow nature and human activity to coexist peacefully, so that every wetland and every species becomes a shared ecological treasure? This kind of respect and protection is also the gentlest promise to future sustainable development. /Liu PeixuanWhale Shark Inside the Aquarium: In front of the whale shark pool at the aquarium, the silhouettes of the audience stand quietly, looking up at the swimming whale sharks. Their attentive postures show their direct concern for the marine giants. This simple gathering silently shares a common understanding: life in the blue ocean deserves awe, and it also calls for human efforts to protect it through scientific management and conservation actions. Every act of understanding and care is a vigilant wait for the continued prosperity of the ocean. /Sun DongshanMelodies in the Mountains, a Dog at My Side: With green hills as a backdrop and grass as a seat, a lone figure and a dog sit while a guitar hums softly. Sunlight spills through the cracks in the stones, warming the plaid shirt, as notes drift with the mountain breeze. The black dog rests quietly beside them, turning the freedom of the journey into a lively melody. Every moment spent close to nature is a gentle act of ecological stewardship, reflecting harmony between humans and the environment. Every step leaves no mark on the land, every pause shows respect for all living things, and each strum of the strings reminds us: freedom and contentment are not just fleeting feelings—they can become a sustainable way of life, where humans and nature nourish each other and grow together in shared beauty. /Wang JingboEyes on Me!: On the Xilamuren Grassland, cows and calves snuggle up to each other peacefully, staying quietly together. Standing on this land, they are a small reflection of the landAfrica Unleashed: Dust rises as African elephants, like moving monoliths, cross the golden plains of Amboseli. The ancient snow cap of Kilimanjaro is gradually shrinking, the wetlands that support the herds are diminishing, and the mountain’s meltwaters are becoming more unpredictable. This breathtaking landscape is disappearing, a result of human activity. Still, humanity also has the power to preserve the vitality of this land—to allow elephants and snowy peaks to coexist and flourish, and to let the beauty of nature thrive alongside sustainable development principles. Protecting this World Heritage Site is urgent. By reducing our carbon footprint and supporting ecological conservation, we can ensure that the footprints of giants and the shimmer of snow-capped peaks last together, forever. /Yongpashuide JingyuThose Who See with the Heart: This is a “cinema for the blind” located in the suburbs of Kunming that provides public services for people with visual impairments. Volunteers serving the visually impaired narrate the films in real time, following pre-prepared scripts that match the movie’s scenes. In this image, taken just before the screening begins, two visually impaired audience members are engaged in conversation. Such attentive companionship ensures that everyone can enjoy cultural resources equally and reflects a broader societal commitment to inclusion and fairness. This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals advocating for equal opportunities and social inclusion. Through volunteer service and public initiatives, caring and shared experiences among people make society warmer, more equitable, and sustainable. /Ou Yang
