Vance says US-Iran talks could begin as early as Sunday

Posted on 21 June 2026 By jobuzo

US Vice President JD Vance said US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner have already arrived in Switzerland for talks with Iran.

In a Fox News interview on Saturday, Vance said that he expected to travel to Switzerland for the talks soon and that the talks could begin as early as Sunday.

Also on Saturday, Iran’s main military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing the US “breach” of the newly signed peace memorandum of understanding and Israel’s ceasefire “violations” in southern Lebanon as reasons.

Vance said there is no evidence that Iran is closing the Strait of Hormuz.

“We’re not seeing any evidence that the Iranians are still closing down the Strait of Hormuz. It is going to take some time to clear those mines, though,” Vance told Fox News.
