Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Summer Davos Forum on Wednesday, highlighting China’s innovation in technology and science and the willingness to collaborate with the world. CGTN spoke with several attendees after the ceremony to hear their takeaways.
“It’s clear that China is a massive leader in forging the way towards new advancements, utilizing AI and other technologies,” said Jasmin Hume, CEO and founder of U.S. AI company Shiru. “I feel really encouraged about the prospects for how other geographies in the world can benefit from those advancements and work collaboratively together.”
“Tech and science have to be absolutely linked with research and development and have to be absolutely linked with development of products and services and funding of it. The Chinese ecosystem has all this present, has all these integrated and has all this in all the sectors,” said Joel Ruet, the president of The Bridge Tank.
He added that he is expected to see open innovation in fields such as green hydrogen, new energy and new materials. “We hope that the value chain for critical materials remains open as well. It’s open innovation, open value chains that the world requires for its transformation.”
Yen Long from the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Vietnam, said that Vietnam is also emerging in terms of technology, and the country is to collaborate more, especially with Asian countries. “I’m very pleased and really excited to look forward to the future that China is really engaging in the future of collaboration into technology and also AI.”
Chris Torrens, chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, acknowledged China’s leading position in several technology sectors, saying that the country has “very compelling products and services.”
“I think the challenge now is for companies and governments in Europe in particular to build stronger bridges, bringing in new technology, then European companies have a lot to learn, a lot to benefit from,” he said.
