68-year-old Darshan Singh Sahsi was shot dead on Tuesday outside his residence in Canada’s British Columbia.
Local police enforcement believed the attack to be targeted. Just hours after the killing of Canada Canada-based gangster, Goldy Dhillon, linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Who is Darshan Singh Sahsi?
Sahsi was a native of Rajgarh village in Ludhiana, Punjab. He moved to Vancouver, Canada, in 1991 and worked odd jobs before buying stakes in the Canam International, a struggling textile recycling unit, and transformed it into a global company.
He also owned a plant in Gujarat’s Kandla and a recycling facility in Haryana’s Panipat.
He was also a well known philanthropist and was associated with the Punjabi literature and cultural circle.
He served as a patron of Ludhiana’s Punjabi Sahit Akademi since 2012 .
Many of his family members said that he rose from modest beginnings and started as a small-time worker before building his business empire.
“He was proud of his village and wanted to create opportunities here,” a relative recalled.
The killing
In the post that Goldy Dhillon shared, he said that the victim was involved in a major drug trade and allegedly ignored the gang’s demand for money.
Canadian police investigation suggested that the shooter was waiting for Sahsi to arrive at his vehicle, which was parked at the side of the road outside his residence.
The shooter was in another car and shot him as soon as he got into the car.
Abbotsford Police Patrol officers are treating the murder as a targeted attack and are also investigating the gang’s claim made on social media. They are also examining CCTV footage.
