Man previously jailed for filming upskirt videos convicted again

Posted on 4 August 2025 By jobuzo

Despite being previously jailed for similar offences, a 36-year-old man went on to take upskirt videos of at least 10 women.

A police raid on Yu Weijie’s (transliterated) home in August 2024 also uncovered numerous upskirt videos stored on his phone, computer, and cloud accounts.

The footage had been recorded across various parts of Singapore over eight months.

On Aug 3, Yu was sentenced to 17 weeks’ jail after pleading guilty to two counts of voyeurism.

Another charge of voyeurism and a breach of film regulations was taken into consideration during sentencing.

Trailed a victim from Bugis MRT

Shin Min Daily News reported that Yu spotted an 18-year-old victim at Bugis Junction around 10pm on July 23, 2023. He followed her from Bugis MRT station to Little India, and then to Serangoon, where she exited the train.

While the victim was on the escalator, Yu accidentally bumped into her left knee. When she turned around, she saw him standing in a suspicious posture, holding a phone with its screen lit.

He then walked away while still holding his phone. The victim tried to follow Yu but lost sight of him and subsequently filed a police report.

Following investigations, police apprehended Yu at Bugis MRT station on August 2. A mobile phone and USB drive were seized, and he was arrested the next day.

Yu admitted to targeting women with long legs and said he kept the videos for personal viewing.

Noting that Yu had previously been sentenced to 15 weeks’ jail for similar offences, the prosecution called for a 17-week sentence, citing his lack of remorse and repeat offences.
